iPhone 4 Owner Upgrade Eligibility

Hey MR Friends,

In anticipation of the iP5, I checked the upgrade eligibility of my line on AT&T's site last month. End result: they say I'm eligible for an upgrade. 😀

I'm an iP4 launch day owner, so def not near the 18 months usually required for an early upgrade. Any other iP4 folks seeing an early option?

[I also DO NOT possess a crazy $200.00+ family plan, which I've heard alters your eligibility status...just a 2 line family plan, sharing lowest minutes/low texts/200MB data]

Your line is the primary account owner and that specific line can receive one year upgrades if certain conditions are met. Mind you I don't know what all the conditions are.

I've heard that in a Family Plan, the primary account holder qualifies for an iPhone upgrade ahead of the 18-24 month requirement.

"Spectrum Abuser" beat me to it.
 
When I checked last month I was eligible as well.
I bought my iPhone 4 a few seconds after it launched.

I've been with AT&T since the 3G launch but only added a family plan last September.

That's not true. Ive been the primary account holder since the first iPhone .
when the iPhone 4 came out I was eligible now AT&T says I have to wait until 12/2011. Which kind of ticks me off.
 
I preordered mine and got it one day before store launch and my primary line is eligible 22/11/2011 and the second line which I also preordered a 4 for is eligible on 02/25/2012 so I really don't know how AT&T figures this stuff out.

Traditionally haven't the upgrade dates been moved up after the announcement from Apple?
 
I bought my iPhone 4 last September and it says that I'm eligible for an upgrade. I switched from big red, think that has anything to do with it?

Yes that's what I have heard. When the 3gs came out, if you were within 3 months of eligibility, you could get it at the discounted price. With the 4, it was 6 months so I think they will do the same this time. Especially now that Sprint, Verizon and AT&T will all have the new iphone, I don't see why AT&T wouldn't do the same to make sure they don't lose customers.
 
I bought two on launch day, neither line is the primary account. One is already eligible for upgrade, the other is 2/25/12...

Yeesh...that's odd. I'm guessing AT&T has some black magic algorithm to determine eligibility. There was one more curious thing: ive been an unlimited data holder since the 3G, and recently gave my wife my iP4 (crazy things you do for love I guess). They terminated my grandfathered data for switching devices, so maybe that led to an "IF, THEN" that helped me out. Who knows😕

They shouldn't have done that. 😕
 
I used my early upgrade in December last year after I sold my original launch i4 and I'm eligible to upgrade as of 12/4.
 
I pre-ordered the 4, was eligible for upgrade in July 2011. Family plan, my secondary line is eligible November 2011.
 
I'm on an Verizon employee line and while I don't see a bill, I have to wait months to be able to activate an iPhone 5 and put my iPhone 4 away..

A semi-fair trade off for not having a bill I guess.

I don't know what the criteria are for 12-month eligibility, but I have been with AT&T for about 4 years and have always been eligible after 12 months. Bought my iPhone 4 in November, and I am eligible for full-discount upgrade this coming November. I am on the 450-minute plan, with some add-ons and one additional handset on the account.
 
I pre-ordered the 4 and mine says eligible on 11/25/2011. I'm on a family plan and am the main line. I hope this gets bumped up once the iP5 is announced!
 
Got my iPhone 4 on launch day and my upgrade date was Nov 25th for the longest time, but I just checked again after reading this thread and I am now eligible.

I am primary on a family plan with lowest minutes, 2Gig data (but just bumped up to 4Gig for tethering for a trip - that must be the difference) and family unlimited text.

Now just need to see if it is worth the upgrade.

Just checked again...still 11/25. DAMN
 
Launch day iPhone 4 and I'm available on 02/2012. My wife bought a 3GS a little over a year ago and she's been available for upgrade for a while now. She's the primary so that's why she's available. It's true, if you are the primary holder you should be available for upgrade every year (with some stipulations). There isn't any other reason why AT&T would just give her an upgrade before 2 years when she bought the 3GS last June.
 
Folks, listen up. If you are on ATT then the more you pay the earlier the upgrade typically. For example, my fiance at the time and me bought our iphones on the same day last June/July 2010 on our seperate accounts. She is eligible for the upgrade now and i am eligible in march 2012. The reason being is she pays over $100 monthly. I pay about $75. so the $25-30 difference monthly over the year is $300-350.... so she is essentially paying for her early upgrade. It is worth it for ATT to keep the highly profitable customers by letting them upgrade after 12 months.

I DO NOT know how the family plan situation works as i/we are not on that.
