The up/down volume buttons on my girlfriend's ibook dont work to control the volume. Is there a setting that could have been accidentally changed to disable this? the other "F" keys still function as normal, and I can adjust the vlume with the slider in OSX. Any insight would be appreciated!

The relevant setting, possibly, is in System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard > Use F keys for custom actions. That checkbox should be off normally.

If it's on, then you must hold Fn to do the volume.

You could also try resetting your Mac's PRAM as a last resort for odd input behavior: restart it, and hold down Command-Option-P-R all together. Keep it held until after the SECOND chime. Worth a try.

Are there any adverse affects to resetting the PRAM? Or will doing this not mess anything else up?

and thanks for the reply!
