I've just got my thunderbolt -> HDMI cable and connected my 2011 13" MBA to my HDTV. With my old white MacBook I used a VGA adapter to the same TV and was able to get the max resolution of the screen which I believe was 1680x1050 (not quite full HD). However, when I use the new HDMI adapter this resolution does not appear in the display preferences pane, but 1080p does though my TV doesn't support this, so it looks a bit "squashed".

Is there any way to force it into using the TV's native resolution?
