Apple Clearing Out the iPhone 4 for $149 (16GB) and $199 (32GB)

If for some reason, you don't want to get the new iPhone 4S, Apple retail stores are selling the remainder of their iPhone 4 16GB and 32GB models while supplies last. The clearance prices for the units are $149 and $199, with the usual 2 year contract. Apple will offer a $99 iPhone 4 model going forward, but that model only has 8GB of storage.

The prices are $50 and $100 cheaper than their 16GB and 32GB iPhone 4S counterparts, though you are losing a fair number of features (faster processor, Siri voice assistant, better camera).

Sounds awesome.
Too bad I'm getting the iPhone 4S.

Pretty nice deal, but I'd personally pony up the $50 and just get the 4S.

I went to the AT&T Store today hoping that they would offer a discount on the remaining iPhone 4s, but they aren't honoring this price. I definitely would have bought one if they had offered me 32 GB for $199!

For $50 more you might as well get the new one. I mean, your monthly bill for two years will be greater than that, so that's like $2 a month more for a better phone.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_5 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8L1 Safari/6533.18.5)

Save 50 bucks and have a phone that weighs less, has 100 more stand- by hours, is cooler running, runs the same OS, will be tArgeted by more devs for app development, shares an identical chassis, and same display. Also running proven hardware, so you have less chance of defects. You would have to settle for the second best camera on the market, and the speech-dictation services of Siri...of course you could get most of that using Dragon apps.... The 4 may be the better option.

Does the current Verizon CDMA now work with Sprint?

That would be sweet if someone who couldn't wait can now get that V iPhone... I'm not, though. I'll wait for the WORLD PHONE.

Well, now that the iPhone is coming to Sprint, and Sprint has a decent signal at my house again, we'll be switching to Sprint. My original thought is that I'd get a 4S and my wife would get a 4. She'd probably like more storage, since she tends to fill hers up with pictures and apps she never deletes, so this would have been good.

But then she watched the video on Siri....

So looks like we're getting two 4S's now...

It is *VERY* murky on if the current Verizon-activated CDMA iPhone will work on Sprint. The iPhone 4 is available now for Verizon still, and will be available on Sprint soon, along with the 4S. But everywhere I see, it seems as if you can get the GSM iPhone 4 or 4S unlocked and contract-free; but the CDMA models still require a contract. Note that they specifically state in the footnotes for the 4S that in order to get a model with CDMA, you must buy it activated for a CDMA carrier (Verizon or Sprint.)

Which means that while you can get one on AT&T that is unlocked for all GSM carriers, that one will *NOT* be capable of CDMA! The CDMA one will be unlocked-by-default on GSM, though.

World Phone doesn't automatically mean getting a local sim card. The Sprint and Verizon phones will have a gsm sim (probably built in?)

From apple.com:

Whether you’re a GSM or CDMA customer, you can roam GSM networks in 200 countries around the world.
Reading your last sentence though, this might be a misunderstanding chain fromt the op to you to me

So like... where you get them? Dad might upgrade to 4 instead of 4S cause he doesnt need the new Siri or Camera since all the phone does is tv shows and calls.

I want to know why Apple is not selling the 16 and 32gb unlocked iPhone 4 I don't want a contract but I want more than 8 GB for $549 and I want it sooner than the 14th!

how much space will iOS 5 take up. My iPhone 4 16GB says it only has 14GB capacity. If 2.5GB of my 8GB is going to be lost to the OS then maybe it is worth getting another 16GB phone.

Pricing seems to be inconsistent. One Apple Store told me that they are not discounted at all. Another store told me that they are all $50 off, so $149 for 16GB and $249 for 32GB.

Unlocked ones are also $50 off, so they are $599 for the 16GB and $699 for the 32GB.

I don't see the value in either the "new" iPhone 4 8GB model or these discounted prices as compared with the new 4S model.

$100 discount for less memory and an older model phone?
$50 discount for an older model phone?

Is the 4S that little of an upgrade or is Apple just being overambitious in pricing for the old models?
