Just bought a 2010 air for $450

So, I just traded my MacBook Pro 2011 base 13" model with a downgraded hardrive (only 250gb). I posted it on Craigslist for $950. This guy traded me his base MacBook air (2010) + $400 in cash, then threw in over $100 in accessories.

I effectively bought a 2010 MacBook air with 75 battery cycles for $450 that's in mint condition.

NO it doesn't have a backlit keyboard
NO it doesn't have an i5 processor
NO it doesn't have 4GB ram

But... I did just buy a 2011 iMac on Amazon for $691 after credit card rebates, etc., so I'm not worried about processing power.

Would you have done the same or spent an extra $500 on the 2011 base Air? I know my ideal computer was the 2011 $1199 model with 4GB ram, but I couldn't pass this up!

That's an amazing deal, you're lucky to have gotten the Air at such a low price. I would have done exactly the same thing if I were in your position. What are the specs of the Air you bought btw?

It's sadly just the base model:

1.4Ghz C2D
2gb ram
64gb flash memory.

I got a nice bag which I probably wont use but it's nice to have. Also came with an external CD drive and a USB SD card reader. The computer is in absolute mint condition!

Only thing that was missing was the box. I do love their boxes :(

But overall, I'm highly satisfied with my purchase! At $450, it was cheaper than an iPad!

I have been shopping refurbs and used deals like on Craiglist. I've noticed the resale value isn't as strong as it used to be. I almost bought a 2011 13" MBP a couple weeks ago for $850.

Nonetheless I think you got a pretty good deal.

Up until recently, I use to be able to flip Mac's and trade up every couple months between models and still come out ahead. But yes, I'd say within the past year prices just haven't held up as well and I'm out of that game for sure :)

Even with CD2 being outdated I'd have jumped at that price. Congrats.

Scary to think, the machine didn't even *exist* a year ago and you can get it half price. Yeah, I think Apple fans are going to have to stop citing high resale value at this rate.

First of all, congrats on the great deal!!! :D

Also, what would everyone here consider to be a "good" price for a base 2010 air on ebay or craigslist? ~$700?

Apple was selling the base 2010 on its refurb site for $699 recently. $450 sounds like a good deal. It's entirely possible the OP could get $600 for it.

I've considered trying for $650-700 and combining that with maybe $300 or so for the Air of my choice :). I figure I can wait for the prices for 2011 models to come down. I'm pretty good about selling computers on CL.

I've been asking $900 for my 2011 13" MBP for a few days on craigslist now and I get nothing! :(

Yeah, with CL, I have had similar experiences. Either I get low-ball offers or less than equitable trade offers. For me, I usually want to sell pretty fast. Perhaps, the key is in letting it be listed longer? Unfortunately, macs don't keep their value, as in the past.:) Selling is harder, but you can get some nice deals (as the op did).

What? How is that high? That's $1019+ tax and recycling puts you at close to $1100. Maybe around $1060 or something. A "used" 2011 Macbook Pro in excellent condition with a good remainder on the warranty for $900 is a discount of $150+.

For what its worth the right price is about $925. Just sold mine but it'll depend on the area and where you live. In LA and orange county 925 easy if you know how to list on craigslist. Granted you'll get lowballers no matter what you do.
