Can anyone comment on why there are no member rankings above 601? Has this been given any thought? The rankings go up every 500 posts, give or take, but then once a member hits 601, that seems to be it – I’ve seen members like jefhatfield who have 7000+ posts but are still ranked as a 601!

Has Arn or anyone else recently thought of updating the rankings to include more? I think it would be a nice gesture for some of the more long-standing members of MacRumors. And God knows there are enough Apple-related processors out there to accommodate more rankings!

Just curious to hear people's feedback on this.

And on a side note, I’ve always been curious to see what Mr. Anderson would rank if his Mod title was removed temporarily… ;)

What's with all the interest in rankings all of a sudden

My personal opinion - if you're posting enough to get 7,000 or more posts, you might want to consider contributing (based on the premise that it is revived sometime in the near future) and therefore making the ranking irrelevant.

I'd consider to contribute now (at 984+1), but we can't at the current moment. I hope you are right and they revive it in the near future.

Actually, the number of members with thousands of posts is still pretty small; I don't see a big need to change anything right now. Contributor status should be sufficient for the upwardly-mobile MR members, when it is reinstated.

Ah, interesting, thanks for this intriguing and teasing hint Arn, I appreciate it! Hmm, so there are higher rankings already set... dammit, now you've piqued my curiosity! Maybe I'll find out what they are in a couple years... or when someone like jefhatfield finds one first... ;)

We just need to convince someone to take away Mr. Anderson's Mod staus or wdlove's Contributor status for a couple minutes so we can see what their true rankings actually are... ;)

Why do you need that? Can't you just look at their number of posts, or are those numbers hidden?

You can see their number of posts, but there is no ranking information other than their current Mod/Contributor status. If they had "normal" member rankings, it would be a different story.

i thought the member rankings were done to reflect (a little at least) the amount of time the processer was used, but i dont know all the processors or anything like that to figure it out

I, for one, wish the contribution system would come back.. I have greenbacks that are burning a hole in my MR pocket.

It would be funny if when one were to get up to the G4, you'd would continue to go up the ranks as you posted more, but for one cycle you actually were downgraded to a lower rank, similar to when the G4s were speed dumped from 500 MHz to 450 MHz.

The processor didn't change probably (at least I don't think it changed), but it would be humorous nonetheless.

I'm not sure I've ever even seen a 601... though I know they're out there :)

(I'm still having a personal crisis as a result of reaching 68040.)

Yes, that's correct - that's why the 65832 and 68010 rankings only last for 5 posts. But then that begs the question, how long did the 601 last? 7000+ posts' worth?
