I have to be honest and say its purely a cost thing, I'm on Maternity leave atm so just can't stretch to it right now 🙁
I won't be updating to Lion any time soon, because frankly it looks like it sucks hard, and everyone I have talked to who has updated has regretted it.
10.7 was buggy but 10.7.2 so far is pretty solid. Mission Control is acceptable now that you can organize desktops/fullscreen apps and you can drag files from fullscreen apps. It's a lot better than it used to be.I won't be updating to Lion any time soon, because frankly it looks like it sucks hard, and everyone I have talked to who has updated has regretted it.
You can afford a 200+ phone but not a $30 OS upgrade?
Lol yep, my phone is on a business contract so my upgrade will be free. Happy days!

Plus, I have heard lots both good and bad about it, just never been convinced enough to pay out £22. I may have to now tho!
To answer the actual question,
iCloud does not rely on Lion at all. It will work great with your iPhones and iPads independent of what version of OSX you're running. What you won't be able to do is sync things like your contact and calendar information from your iDevices to OSX. But yes, between the iDevices, everything will sync just fine and iCloud will work great.
Would I be able to manually sync? My situation is I've got an iMac, MacBook pro, iPad and iPhone. (omg! Ive been absorbed by the Borg!)
I'd like to get iCloud going, and can go to Lion on my MacBook pro, but not on the iMac yet. I use the iMac for music and have a lot of plugins that run in logic that I don't want to update yet, and logic is still unsteady in some areas with Lion.
So could I go to iOS 5 on the iPad and iphone, and Lion on the MacBook pro and use iCloud, while leaving the iMac on Snow Leopard for the next six months or so?
yea, the lion upgrade is $29 bucks

weird
i been on it now for about 5 months and i love it. Its a lot faster then SL and works better. I find that people just do not like change and dont know how to adjust settings start to bash stuff. You can set or change just about every feature in Lion. Hell you can even make it look just like SL if you want
Yes. In that case, everything will be synced between the iPad, iPhone, and Macbook Pro just fine. The iMac will function just like it always has, but it won't have your calendars/address book/other stuff synced to it through iCloud.
Very good news! That'll do the job. Do you know if I'd be able to sync the calendar and address book etc manually on the iMac in that arrangement?
There are ways to get it done. You can export your contacts into a file and transfer that file over to the iMac. As far as the calendar, I'm not yet sure if you can see it on Snow Leopard, but even if you can't, the contacts, calendar, email, and other stuff is available on www.icloud.com for any computer.
I believe OSX 10.6.9 (when it happens) will give iCloud capability to SL. Anyone know differently?
