shutdown or sleep at night?

if you only use the mac during business hours, is it better to shutdown the mac or put it to sleep overnight?

Sleeping it should be fine. I'm pretty sure that the only issue is that power runs through the RAM while it sleeps. Although I'm not really sure how this could be a problem as it doesn't really use up all that much power.

I think its personal preference myself... personaly I just use standby...

If one way was "worse" for the system, it really doesnt mater because once it breaks its probibly time for a new one anyway. (At least thats my theory)

you should sleep it, personally tho mine just stays on, monitor dimmed.

there is nothing wrong with sleeping the computer in my opinion, its my preference as well. that way you dont have to wait for it to shut down at night or boot up in the morning, much faster, and simpler. it drains very little power and everything is stored on the ram, so it really isnt a longevity issue either

well i've had the mac for 2 days now. it starts up pretty quick and sleeps fine too. i sleep in the same room as the mac and even though it doesn't make much (or any) noise during sleep mode, i'd be concerned if anything happened while i was sleeping.....

however i do notice that the lcd montior feels warm after a short use, so i'm not sure what long term effect this would do if i had it in sleep mode overnight.

if i do shutdown, should i also turn the monitor off?.
the button on the side of the monitor seems quite sensitive (as far as turning it on and off).

I assume you're using the Apple Cinema Display, right? It really should be fine letting the Mac sleep and leaving the monitor to its own devices. From my experience, that should be cool, but others may have experienced problems...
