Sync Notes w/iCloud

If I turn on Notes with iCloud it says to create a email @me.com ?
Ok well I have a old me email addy that I do not use but it will not allow me to use that next why should you need to have a email should it not just sync like my calendar ?
 
I am having the same issue. My Itunes account is gmail so i dont use my @.me. The only option it gives me is to create a new @.me account. I dont get why notes is the only thing that requires this.
 
I used my yahoo account for an Apple id, for syncing notes, and I cloud, I created an "@me" email, and from what I see, it seems that you can use your original email, but when you go into icloud it'll send the note to your @me email. if that makes any sense, you should be able to use your original email. just create an @me and you'll be able to start using it
