Sorry if it's an obvious question - but you don't mention if you turned on mirroring on the iPad, only Airplay. Have you also turned on mirroring? (in the Airplay popup in the multitasking bar).

I believe so on the lock screen if I double tap on home button select and nothing. What could I be doing wrong.

Mirroring cannot be turned on from the lock screen.

I tried playing some more games on it last night - including Tiny Birds. It's reasonably playable, but the latency makes a huge difference. If I play watching the TV, I'm rubbish as my inputs are a fraction of a second too slow. If I play viewing the iPad screen, I'm instantly much better. So for any timing-sensitive gaming, it seems it's a no-go. I'm just using a G router (the AppleTV itself is wired), but I don't think an N router is going to make much difference to the latency. On the other hand, I do like that if you're using Airplay Mirroring, and bring up a Youtube video on your iDevice, it switches to video mirroring (and so high quality, widescreen) on the TV.

Well, what did you expect? The iPad's display is 4:3, so the only way to get a 16:9 image on a TV would be to stretch (yuck) or crop (also yuck).

Hi
I also can't get my iPad 2 to mirror with my apple tv 2. I've turned on mirroring when I double clicked the home button, I get the blue mirroring icon next to the battery indicator for about 10 seconds, then it goes away. Please help |

Full screen is up to the devs of apps to implement, also i too was having latency issues and then it dawned on me to hard wire my apple tv to the modem and viola no more lag mirroring anything

Adrian, before you jump all over him ignorantly, you should know he means that there are black bars on the edge, the screen doesn't even touch the edges with a native app that is supposed to output 720p full screen mode. It is VERY disappointing to see a black bar all the way around the edges of the screen... seems very un-apple

Yes, I should know that but it's not what I got from the post, it's not a big deal either until people that throwing names around *shrug*. I agree that window boxing is unacceptable, I'm trying to think of a reason why they'd do it, but it doesn't prevent interpolation or anything, so who knows?

I've also got a weird problem with mirroring
Using iPad2 and AppleTV2. Ok, so when I got to the Airplay button on the ipod controls, I get the option to select iPad or Apple TV but (!!) there is no option for mirroring (I've seen screenshots where there is a toggle switch for mirroring). As a result, I get some applications (like Real Racing 2) where AirPlay sends audio but no video to the AppleTV.
Any ideas???? Thanks!! David |

You need to update the software on your ATV2. This will allow mirroring.

[edit]: OK if RR2 is first app to mirror it goes true fullscreen. If I mirrored some other non-fullscreen app prior it wont go true fullscreen unless I toggle mirroring on/off. Last edited by osohardy; Oct 18, 2011 at 10:53 AM. |

Can't see the mirror option
hi
I did upgrade to IOS5 and APV to the latest software. When I double click the home button and go left, I do see the choice between Ipad TV and Apple TV. When i choose the Apple TV though, I don't see the Mirroring option to choose from. Is there any way to get it appear? Should I reinstall IOS5? Thx |

I have basic cable. We use mirroring (now) to watch programs from the Internet on channels we don't receive. Before I had a video out cable. Mirroring is much nicer.

THis is the fix via Apple message boards
Re: Mirroring won't work with ipad 2 and Apple TV 2. Oct 19, 2011 8:40 AM (in response to Mikey923) THIS IS IT: I had all of these problems with my iPad 2 and my Apple TV 2. If the above response did not work for you (which it didn't for me), give this a shot. I just got off the phone with Apple. You need to: unplug your Apple TV 2 Use a micro USB chord (most phones/cameras use them as chargers) and plug the apple tv directly into a computer that is running iTunes. Once the Apple TV is recognized it will ask to restore. Click Restore and follow the prompts. This will reset your Apple TV but install the latest firmware 4.4 on it. If you're like me, my Apple TV 2 came with 4.1 and 4.4 will not update over the internet. It MUST be plugged into iTunes through a computer and updated manually. After this was done, I was able to mirror flawlessly. Hope this helps anyone in my situation.

AirPlay Mirroring has great potential, wait until devs update their apps to take full advantage of it. Real Racing 2 is already doing this and it works quite well… if only my iPad 2's WiFi wouldn't keep cutting out!
