can TWO icloud accounts work on ONE ipad?

TWO people - with to separate iCloud accounts - share ONE ipad?

How do we get this to work,
other than going into settings>iCloud each & everytime we pick up the device?
(and I'm not even sure that manual edit would work without messing up syncing and maybe jumbling up contacts and stuff.)
