I have an iPhone 3G. It is backed up on my iTunes. I just purchased the iPhone 4s. Will the new iPhone 4s automatically become my phone and take old information from my 3G's sim card. Will it render my old iPhone 3G unusable? (I hope so)

I just want to make sure that everything from my old phone goes right into my new phone.

The new iPhone will come with it's own micro-SIM card already in the slot. You just have to sync everything over via iTunes. Make sure you've got Contacts syncing set up and ready to go.

contact syncing

Where do I find contact syncing to make sure that it set up and ready to go?

"Sync Address Book Contacts"

It says "Sync Address Book Contacts" - I should check this and it will sync my contacts from my old phone to my new phone?

Yes, and then choose Yahoo or Gmail. Do you use either of those mail services? If not, just create one for assurance. It might be a one-time thing because once you're up and running on the 4S, your contacts will be backed up on iCloud.
