Why no option to turn off 3G on the iPhone 4S?

Apple website says battery life is up to 14 hours on GSM/EDGE (2G) but they have removed the setting to turn off 3G. Anyone know why this is?

Figured this had something to do with Verizon and Sprint having the same hardware and software model as AT&T.

They probably didn't want to confuse CDMA customers with a "turn off 3G" button since that was only intended for GSM iPhones previously, not CDMA.

I agree though that it is a nice feature to have that I miss 🙁
 
Maybe because it was never a feature for CDMA iPhones? I could imagine they're trying to keep all of the phones on the same OS and since the Sprint/Verizon phones can't disable it they won't offer it for AT&T users.

there were always two software loads depending on carrier, so I think the switch was in the last OS for AT&T
 
Is the switch missing on the AT&T iPhone too?

It's strange; the switch can apply to both CDMA and GSM carriers; with CDMA carriers 3G is "EVDO" and non-3G is "1xRTT". So there's no reason to leave it out on any carrier.

Yes, it's missing on AT&T as well.
