Can you buy a copy of Snow Leopard and install on two different computers so that I can then get App Store and install Lion on both machines?

No issues you can do this. But you can work on both Mac with OS X Lion in smarter manner.

Buy and install Lion in external hard drive (that hard drive need to have snow leopard installed or go for clean install the lion on external drive). You can easily boot you either Mac targeting this external drive.

Also, if you want to know how to create bootable DVD you can go through Creating bootable DVD
