My aunt is visiting the family from Germany (we are in Canada). She has an older iPod touch that is using version 4.2.1 (i think that's the operating system).

Am I able to update the operating system on my iTunes without her losing her music on the ipod?

Please excuse my complete ignorance on this matter. I'm pretty good with my own devices but I don't want to start messing with hers in case I mess it up. She's even more clueless than I am.

I have an ipod, iphone 4s and ipad that I use with my own itunes....in case that makes a difference

She might be able to sign into her itunes on your computer, but if she can't do that, I wouldn't do it. Why does she suddenly NEED to update it now?

Also -- purely out of curiosity -- what's an 'iphone touch'?

I think it's kind of like an iPod 4S, but without the music or something. :D
