iPhone 4S screen hue: Cool, Yellow or Neutral?

First off I know there are a few threads about this topic already (most notably: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1251205), however I just wanted everyone's opinion on what they prefer?

Currently, I have a Black 32GB iPhone 4s (Model A13XX) and from comparing mine to my buddies iPhone 4S & my other buddies iPhone 4 - it's clear to see that I have the most neutral color hue out of the two iPhone's. However here's what I've obversed so far:

1. The neutral color does better job with whites and is more accurate in displaying all colors. The white actually look white but the only drawback as far as I can tell is the colors temperatures. They just don't seem as "vibrant" as my buddies iPhone 4 which has a more vivid hue to it. The colors just seem to "pop" out more, is it just me or do you all justify this as well?

2. The iPhone 4 and my buddies iPhone 4S (Black - 16GB) both have the same color hue, with the iPhone 4 looking a bit more vibrant in my eyes. I can't really tell if it has that "Cool" tone that everyone keeps referring to or if it has that "Yellow" tone that everyone is complaining about.

3. Should I go into the Apple store to compare it with the other iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S's? I don't mind having the iPhone 4S that everyone wants where the colors are actually nice and accurate (neutral) but I actually like the more vivid colors; just my own preference. So if I'm able to compare mine to the other iPhone 4S's in the store then I'll probably try to make a trade?

What do you all think? Suggestions/Feedbacks are welcomed, thanks ahead of time.

*update*
I'll post up some pics as a comparison in an hour or so.

Here's a few screenshots, iPhone 4S on the left and the 4 to the right. Keep in mind both are at 100% brightness with Auto-Brightness off. I also have the Zagg screen protector on (yes I know not the best but it'll do till Power Support finally ships my damn screen protectors!!):

Your iphone 4 definitely does not have the "cool" screen that everyone has been talking about.

Side by side a cool iPhone 4 is ice blue compared to a 4S. I definitely prefer your 4S between these two.

Thanks man, my 4S definitely doesn't have that cool or yellow hue that everyone has been talking about. So i'm pretty happy about that, I just wish there was more contrast, more POP to the colors. Screenshots don't tell the whole story.

My 4S is definitely cooler than my iPad 2 and MBP 17". Both of those are right around 6500K. I'd have to play around with the temperature on the MBP to see where the 4S falls, but I would guess 7000K at least.

I'm not going to bother trying to exchange it - if most of the 4Ss are cooler, Apple could correct that in a future update, as they have done in the past. Also, in every other aspect, this one's perfect. I could also end up with one that's warmer than normal.

If I need to do serious color correction, I would do it in Aperature or PS on the Mac, anyway.

Ironically, phones with more of a warm push look more contrastsy. It just makes the whites suck.

I'm not talking about piss yellow screens, just warm ones.

Yeah that's exactly what I'm talking about, colors pop more which I actually like a lot more.

I just got a white 4S. Looks like your 4S exactly.

Off topic but I accidentally chipped off some of the white border with my stupid nails haha

Mine is definitely a bit warmer than my 4 and my iPad 2. It's not bad enough that I would exchange the phone, but I do feel like the colors "pop" more on my other devices. I think at the end of the day it's all a personal preference thing. I just happen to prefer a screen that is slightly cooler.

I strongly advise you don't. Your screen tint is perfect. You risk getting one far worse.

Well I'm just going in to compare and see what the deal is, I just prefer a screen with more "pop" to the colors.

Try comparing your phones to the Galaxy SII. The GS2 is gawd awful with greenish/bluish/yellow tint!

Picked up my 4s today to replace the 3Gs. Only issues so far are the yellowish screen mentioned in this thread (3Gs was "cool") and one nick on the edge near the vibe button.

Also had an odd problem for a spell that whenever I made a call, when they answered my phone went into speaker-phone mode. Happened several times but a complete shutdown and restart has fixed it so far.

LOVE the retina display, yellow hue or not.

Mike

I guess I got lucky with this iPhone. My first 4S was very yellow, this second one is cool like my iPhone 4 was. It looks better with the cool color, imo.

My point exactly, I'm stopping by Apple this morning so we'll see how that goes.

Depends on the viewing angle..

I'd say that my 4S has a neutral/ slightly yellow hue viewed straight on.

When I look at it from an angle (up or down) the yellow hue increases.

In fact, the viewing angle is quite tight I'd say

i really like the cool blue phone. i cant stand the yellow / neutral . i am not sure why.

i went through alot of iphone 4s to find one that has a good blue. and i finally was able to find one. " the yellow/neutral iphone 4s screens vary,, they are not all the same. i noticed the white iphone 4s always has this yellow type of screen while the black iphone 4s vary " i guess it comes down to the factory thats making the screen

maybe there are even better blue iphone 4s out there. but i cant find so far that has more blue than my screen when it comes to iphone 4s .

however i my ipod touch 4 has a more blue than my iphone 4s. but not that much . so i am happy .

i will never get a phone with a yellowish screen. the white looks horrible on that and it just looks dull to me. specially if i am in the office or where is a neon lights . it makes the iphone screen almost look black & white if it was yellowish/neutral type of the screen. and i cant stand that. specially since i am coming from galaxy s2 which has even better colors than any iphone

I love the "cool blue" on my original first gen iPhone but then every iteration of the device seemed to come with warmer & warmer colors.

Although some some ppl dig the warmer color tone. I really wish I could find the "cool blue" counterpart of my first gen on a more recent iPhone.

They are out there, you just have to play the typical Apple screen lottery to find one.

@cabahah...Yea, your probably right but it seems like a lot of time and effort scouring the waves of iOS phones to find one meeting my critical specifications.

It really just comes down to how bad do you want it & how far are you willing to go for it.

Well I've got a Genius Bar appointment coming up in a few hours here so wish me luck guys. I'm NOT leaving and I repeat NOT leaving till I get a 4S with a cool blue hue screen! We all paid a hell of a lot of money for our phones so why settle for less? I'm sorry but I work hard for my hard earned money and this is unacceptable.

Good luck let us know how it goes I tried that same approach and they usually give you two replacements before they tell you that the yellow tint is not a defect in that they don't have to replace it. This is usually the part where they send you on your way and tell you that they can't keep opening boxes and letting you handpick the unit you want.

I found a white iPhone 4S with a very blue tint, exactly how I like it. It was hard, very hard finding one.

The phone had a cosmetic flaw with some of the white border being a little chipped off. (Genius fault) But there was no way I was returning it because of that.
