Time Machine -- On or Off

I connect my MBP to a My Book external drive and run Time Machine about once a week. Should I leave TM running when I don't have the external drive connected?

Thanks in advance for the info!

Hardly matters. It won't run the backup if it can't find the designated TM drive.

If only to remind you to backup.
