I use mine solely as a chat device into adium and to get event invitations/etc.
I have unsubscribed to everyone, so my newsfeed (and the annoying ticker) are empty unless I post something myself - Quote:
Stuff like macrumors though? oh boy

I just deleted mine for the 2nd time, and this time it is for good. I never look at it anymore, and don't like the intrusions on my privacy.

I tried using it for a few weeks and closed it. I got tired of hearing friends say I just woke up or time to get ready for work. Yes I know thats what FB is all about but I don't care if someone has to get ready for work. The drunk ramblings from friends can be fun but I can live without those as well.

That was up until about a year ago. Now when you close your FB, you are told that you can always come back simply by logging in and your page will be just as you left it at closing.

I use Facebook as a tool. I don't see a problem with it unless you're just addicted to it

I'm very glad I don't have an account anymore, but, frankly, I don't care if others do as long as it adds to their quality of life.

Good for you!
I'm wondering, how do people get addicted to Facebook? I've used it for almost four years now and I still only use it for 30 minutes a day at the most. I don't see what is so consuming about it

.In all seriousness though that's time I would have spent doing something equally useless with my spare time (shout out to Doodle Jump), but at least I'm also keeping in contact with friends & relatives that live out of town.

I just deleted mine.
Too much drama from family members causing trouble for me. Hate that kind of thing so I just took myself out of the equation completely. Not really sure what to do with all this spare time now... (I'm at University and spend a couple of hours per day in my room with not much to do). Any suggestions?

Broaden your horizons, via the Internet.
For World issues I suggest you start with Al Jazeera. Others may disagree. For U.S. politics, always good for a laugh, follow Jon Stewart and/or The Colbert Report.

I'm thinking of deleting mine as well. I check my page once or twice a week if I get really bored. >.>

Google+ is a better way to go!
For the mere fact that you can group people into Circles, & then share stuff with specific Circles, or even just individuals, sold Google+ to me. More recently, Google introduced Hangouts that provides group video chat for free. I'm also a fan of Google Drive.
http://www.google.com/+/learnmore/ Ultimately, you only have a limited amount of time in a day, & your insight, self-awareness, & self-control will dictate how much of it will be spent in virtual interaction online and how much will be spent in real-world interactions. Not to mention that sitting around is bad for your health: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22890825 btw, regardless of what social media thing you do, "following" a company or a brand name just seems weird as you give them your time & energy to help advertise their product without getting compensated. |

I go through my FB friends and delete who I rarely talk to. I don't even update my status anymore. I just keep it to stay in touch with friends and family since I'm traveling so much.

Now you actually have time to learn more, earn more, and live a fulfilling life... face to face with those you care about. Me? I've never had any desire to open a Facebook Account... thereby avoiding getting sucked into the vortex of narcissistic time wasting, mind numbing practices. Cheers
