Yeah, voids the warranty for sure.

I think it looks pretty sweet, but I think the silver casing and white apple on my PowerBook looks "slicker"? Bad word choice, but you know what I mean. Apple designs beautiful looking products.

Check out these G3 iBook modifications though. This is cool.

Those mods are pretty cool but the battery is left white and it looks kind of tacky.

Did it on my Powerbook.. love the mod..
Much easier on the iBook IMO

Was it easy? NO..
I spent over an hour and a half and probably 4 credit cards (old expired credit cards or local point cards that i don't use)
I made sure i didn't want to break anything or even scratch the casing.
One of the hardest part was to get to the hex screw on the bottom of the screen. I had to hack my hex tool to make it shape the lines of the PB.

In the end.. i'm really happy with the end result.

I bought the color peices off

Thanks for the info! I have the clear plastic kit that I posted in my first post in this thread. After looking at that site, I was thinking that I want to do something other than the color Apple logo. What do you guys think? I think a gray might look nice but it wouldn't let enough light through when running.

Yea.. i know you have the plastic kit..
Keep in mind that .. unless your in dark lighting (like my pictures)
You won't really see it.. well for my case it was..
I'm sure if you went with a darker film.. you'll see it throughout the day..
Just after i put it back together.. i didn't want to take it apart again.. so i just left it as is.

I beleive on the iBooks.. you just remove the screws.. for the PB, you only have two hex screws at the bottom and then the rest you have to just pry open.. which was a hard task.

Yeah, but if you've got no warranty to left, then what's there to lose?

True..
or just take it out when you send it in for repairs..

Like to mention also..
One of the reasons why mine doesn't show up that well..
Is cause i didn't cut out the tape and put it underneither the tape that was there. I just placed it on top.

Shown here..

damn. the colorware link on that page is great. im pretty certain i'll buy something from them in the near future.

thanks for the link... 🙂

I wonder if you can do that with an old decal (recently found some from ~1989) instead of gel. it'd certainly simplify the color matching, but it could be too opaque... hmm...

I did this to my iBook g3.
I took out all the white paint from the top and painted it silver.
it was my $500 powerbook, haha!

I also put a picture of myself in the apple. 😀
Now my brother has an iBook with a picture of his sister on the front. Think of how much he loves it! (I totally know where the torx screw driver is... I'll get to replacing it eventually)

Do you have a picture of this? I'd be interested to see what a silver iBook looks like!
