Regarding the following in the battery FAQ--

With the computer still on, disconnect the power adapter and continue to use your computer.

--does one need to continue using the computer straight through until it runs out, or can one use it intermittently, provided it's not shut down fully or plugged back in until discharge?

You can use it or let it sit, as long as you don't shut down or let it sleep. What model Mac do you have? The reason I ask is newer unibody models with built-in batteries come pre-calibrated and do not require regular calibration. This should answer most, if not all, of your battery questions:

New Air4,1...so should I not worry about calibrating it now (during its first week), or ever at all?
You don't need to calibrate. If you suspect your battery readings are in error, you can calibrate without harming your Mac, but it shouldn't be necessary. Remember, calibration doesn't affect your battery health at all; it only makes your readings more accurate.
