Resolved Altaz Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort audio question

Hi,

Can anyone confirm whether the Altaz Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort adapter carries audio?

I have emailed the company but they have not responded.

I ask because I have my macbook air hooked up to a Dell U3011 with the Altaz adapter.

It drives the display perfectly, but I want to know if this cable connection also carries an audio signal.

I've looked around online and it seems Apple is not very clear about this subject.



I would love to be able to hook up the Dell AX510 SoundBar to my Dell U3011 monitor and just have the single Altaz mini DP -> DP adapter carry the video AND audio signals.

So can anyone here confirm whether the Macbook Air -> Dell U3011 - > SoundBar set up works only using the Altaz mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort adapter?


The sound bar + its power adapter is around $40, so I'd prefer to know if it works or not before I buy it.


*Edit: I also found this post http://daggle.com/macbook-run-2560-1440-monitor-2324 , but it is a year old. Not sure if the Macbook Air 2011 handles this port differently.

So I took a look at my sound settings, and interestingly Lion seems to identify my monitor as a device for audio output...

It could possibly work I guess?



I can't be the only one who is curious about mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort audio capabilities, I hope.

Update:

I can confirm mini DP -> Displayport does carry audio and video.
