Why is the default for most forums to send you email notifications?

This is insanely irritating. Your inbox is flooded with useless notifications by default until you root through the settings page to turn them off

I don't think so, I haven't gotten any emails from icafe but have from here a lot. Look at the icafe thread someone posted a screenshot

It's not false. Email notification is NOT the default for this forum. Besides, on any forum where it may be the default, it takes a mouse click to change it, so what's the problem?

The main control for it is in your own User Control Panel. Just change it there and then threads you WANT to subscribe to, select that when you post in the thread.

Wait, let me get this straight, sonny. You have 6 posts on this site, and you're telling a Mod that he doesn't know the sites default settings.

Can you say "hubris". Or for the multilingual - chutzpah

Sorry I didn't realize that was a mod, I meant no disrespect. I just didn't understand how I was getting email notifications when I was never prompted to choose to

With the exception of threads you may have chosen to get email notifications for prior to now, you should not be getting any email notifications from this site.
