Jailbreaking: Update to 4.4 or stick with 4.3?

Hey everyone, I recently got an Apple TV and its currently on version 4.3. I am wondering if I should update to 4.4 or not before trying my hand on jailbreaking it.

As I understand, only a tethered jailbreak is available if I update. Is there any other reasons I should wait? As far as additional software is concerned (plex, xbmc, etc) is there any compatibility issues i should know about with one vs the other?

Your better off waiting, my understanding is that only seasonpass works with 4.4.X and that doesn't currently support XBMC, PLEX, Remote HD, etc. I have heard an untethered jailbreak is coming soon but there wasn't a date given.

With 4.3 you can jailbreak with seasonpass, greenpoison, pwnagetools, or snowbreeze. I used greenpoison and it has worked great for me, little to no issues plus installing XBMC was stupid easy to do once it was jailbroken. Here is a link to a how-to:

I'm about to completely ditch my pay TV (DirectTV) and go with an antenna to pick up locals. I'm gonna get the rest of my entertainment over the internet/iTunes and am about to get an Apple TV.

If I were to order one within the next week or two what operating system would it come with? From the most recent post in this thread I'm guessing 4.4. I'm just trying to figure out if it'd be better to buy a used or pre-jailbroken one (there's one locally on Craigslist for $135), or just go ahead and get the 4.4 one hoping that the JB will be released soon.

I'm willing to bet that most Atv's in stores are old stock with the older firmware (4.3 or lower), even so it looks like Apple is still signing the 4.3 firmware so even if you get one with 4.4 you should still be able to downgrade it.

Sounds good, I have used greenpoison in the past with an iphone before and it was a piece of cake. The only thing that makes me want to update to 4.4 atm is ios mirroring. I will probably take your advice though and jailbreak 4.3 first to see how that works. I have already saved my shsh blobs just in case I decide to update in the future and want to switch back.

It may differ for you but mine came with 4.3 (was purchased approximately 1 week ago).

An untethered jailbreak might not be far away for 4.4, so I would wait.
