Hard Drive Fail

Well.....my hard drive is on it's way to failing....had the Genius Bar check it out....now I need to get a new hard drive....I have a late 2005/early 2006 Macbook ....anyone else out there have to replace theirs yet? Any one particular brand over the other? 5400 or 7200? How much can the Intel Core 2 Duo handle? Thanks....
 
Have you already backed up your data already? I know it should go without saying, but not everyone is good about this.
