2010 Mac Pro RAM, Heatsinks?
Sup people,
Im ordering some RAM (2x4GB) for my 2.8 quad 2010 Mac Pro and the cheapest deal I can find is this one http://www.amazon.de/AP_ECC1066D3_4G...6736739&sr=8-7 I was wondering about the heatsink things that are on them. I know that the RAM will work but what difference does that metal thing make? Do these sticks have the "heatsinks" because it says they are for servers, as in the RAM will be stressed more and therefore needs more cooling? Should I stay away from these modules if possible? That metal you see - those are the heatsinks. And that's what they should look like.

It's perfectly fine to have heat spreaders on memory sticks. Don't worry about it.

They arrived two days ago, turns out they dont have the heatsinks at all
can it be that hard to have the picture matching what you get?

Spreaders generally are used for overclocked/ higher than spec memory to help with the added heat. Or for photo ops from manufacturers cause it makes their sticks look tough. Look at freakin' Corsair. They look like a pocket comb for hair.
