Anyone else tried these on an original iPad yet? I downloaded the free 'Life on Earth' text book and found it almost unusable. It takes several seconds to load in pages, and crashes constantly. Are Apple treating the iPad 1 as end of life and now developing their apps for only the iPad 2 and beyond?

iBooks 2 Text Books on iPad 1

It's probably because since the book are so enhanced, that the original iPad can't handle it as good (Keep in mind the iPad 2 has a Dual Core 1Ghz A5 and 512MB of DDR2 Memory, where as the original iPad as a Single Core 1GHz A4 and 256MB or DDR Memory). There's a heavy load on the system.
Is your iPad jailbroken or cracked/dented/chipped anywhere?
It's not jailbroken, it has a 2 small dents on the back, 1 so small it's barely visible... as asked before, how would that make a difference?
It might just be iBooks 2 that's the problem. I had a few lock ups yesterday, getting just the grey background screen instead of a normal book I was browsing.

Yes, I had this a few times as well. Checking the diagnostic info on my iPad, it seems most 'crashes' are actually memory related.
Closing all apps and running iBooks seems to prevent it from crashing, but it's still nowhere near as snappy as the demos.
While I accept the iPad 1 is older, it doesn't seem right that the text book experience should be this bad. I would imagine there are alot of students out there with first gen iPads who probably wouldn't be too happy to be told they need an iPad 2 if they want to use it to study.
I have an iPad 1st Gen and the experience has not been good with 'life on earth'. Slow to load, I have had multiple crashes, as well as the grey screen of death, where you have to quit the App to recover.
I have a really small chip on my touch. Turns out it was causing my home screen to pop up and allow water moisture in, so iOS runs slow and heavy duty apps crash. EXTREMELY small too.
I got the grey screen of iBook death too. I was trying to open a math textbook on my ipad 1. While the book was slowly loading the ipad suddenly gave up and froze on a blank grey screen. After shutting the ipad down to release needed memory, I was able to turn the ipad back on and load the book fine. The text book looked terrific. I wish I was in school...well maybe not, but the textbooks are going to be a winning addition to the ipad. Everybsince the release of iOS5, my ipad 1 crashes for various memory and software issues so I guess Apple has built in the ipad1 obsolescense. Fine, I will get an ipad3 when it comes out. I just wish Apple had been more upfront about the limitations on the compatibility of the ipad1 with some of its latest updates and releases.
iPad - HDMI to VGA Adapter Bluetooth for audio.
I am trying to find a possible solution for hooking an iPad up to a projector wirelessly without havig to buy a 1000+ wireless projector with HDMI
I am going to use Apple TV
Use a HDMI to VGA adapter to put it into the existing projector.
However this will not allow for the output of sound.
Could I use a Bluetooth speaker for sound output on this set up?

It works alright on my iPad 1. Whenever I run into troubles, I do a reset, and after that it is quite responsive. Jumping to a certain page from the index still takes some 5 or more seconds, but then scrolling through the pages is acceptable speed wise.
I also heart recently that restoring the iPad to its factory settings can help if you are having problems with iOS 5. I want to do this some day, but haven't had the time yet. Maybe someone else has experience with that?

If it's an iPad 2 (or a jailbroken original iPad w/mirroring), why not just use the Dock Connector to VGA adapter instead and tie that directly into the projector and then use the headphone jack for audio?
