Change Carrier Name WITHOUT Jailbreaking
Recently I've been wondering if it's possible to change the carrier name in the menu bar on an iPhone without the need to jailbreak the device.
My research brought me to this and though it seems promising, I have also read that iOS 5 breaks this "hack," if you can even call it that.
I have yet to try that method and was just wondering if anyone out there has successfully gotten this to work on iOS 5. I don't want to risk majorly screwing things up (otherwise I'd just be jailbreaking in the first place) so I thought I'd ask for advice on these forums.
Any thoughts? Maybe there is another option I haven't encountered...

It was never a publicly know or settable preference. But when upgrading from 3.1.3, which supported it, to 4.0, the setting didn't change the carrier's name anymore.
