I got an CD with an avi file.
Quicktime 7 wont play the file, neither will Win Media Player, but it does work with M Player.

Am I missing something?

I installed the 10.4.1 update and now I can't play AVI files in Quicktime. Yes, I already had DivX installed. I'm using VLC right now though.

Some DiVx files play. Some don't. DiVx playback through QT is imperfect in Tiger. I keep VLC around for this reason.

you need to go back and download the older version of divx. 5.1.1 and that should correct the problem until they get the bugs worked out in 5.2.1. solved the problem for me anyway...

Download 3ivx and DiVX Doctor from www.3ivx.com

You should be able to play it now!

I tried divx doctor, draggedthe file into the app. It started well enough, but then I got an error message. (2048 or something)

also, download VLC, which works fine.
but it irritates me that qt 7 wont play it.
I was thinking of buying QT 7 Pro - is it worth, will I still have these problems?

Yes, you will still have these problems. The only thing you get by buying QTpro is to get the ability to edit movies and export them into any quicktime format. But if a format plugin is broken for QT, then I'm sorry but things won't change when upgrading to QTPro.

Use VLC now that it is updated to work for Tiger. It simply is perfect

no sound? Try looking for a AC3 Codec.component somewhere on the interweb. that seems to fix that.

Thanks again everybody!

Now that i think about it, its not so necessary for me to use quicktime to play this file.
I downloaded VLC, it works great.

I appreciate the helps with aall the codecs and stuff.

(I'm a switcher, by the way)

Adios
