iPod Connecting old iPod to new Mac... will my songs be deleted?

If you try to sync you iPod with your Mac, it will erase all of your songs. You're best bet is to follow the instructions here: http://guides.macrumors.com/Copying_Music_from_your_old_PC_to_new_Mac

and use a program like Senuti to transfer your songs, playlists, ratings, etc. from your iPod to your new Mac.

Even if you were manually managing music, iTunes may try to sync/setup/associate your "new to it" iPod. It won't happen automatically. You'll see a prompt saying this iPod isn't set up/associated with this computer/iTunes and you'll be asked if you want to set it up. Just make sure to say no to any attempt by iTunes to sync/setup/associate your iPod with it.

Then it's just a matter of extracting your music off the iPod with one of the listed programs.
