Technically down the road you could have few limitations keeping this from happening.

It almost feels like they are grooming this latest OSx to be that one platform, working on OSx to become more and more iOS like.

Are we seeing a road map to unification and just one OS? I think it's the plan, they see all the iOS users.....$

Springboard vs Finder. You need to solve this conundrum before you have 1 OS. Because otherwise, OS X and iOS have shared their internals from day 1. They have always been "one and the same". It's only at a very high level that they differ (Appkit vs UIKit and Springboard vs Finder).
