Is there any way to sftp into a mac mini and see an external drive? I keep a really large folder on a firewire drive, but when I sftp into the machine from outside the network, I get my home directory but see no way to go to the external drive? Am I missing something obvious? An alias doesn't work with sftp (shows as a plain file). I've search but the most I come up with it how to set up sftp, nothing about external drive access.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
Frank

You have to set the external drive as a shared volume. You should be able to do this from system preferences.

I use transmit and do this very thing.

Connect with your admin user/password, then you should be able to browse back to the root level of the drive.

You'll see a "volumes" folder and you should see your external drive listed there. Hope this helps.

BTW I highly suggest Transmit from Panic.
