Presumably the same time frame the 4S was released as the latest rumors point to a Fall release for future iPhones.

It's great, but I plan on getting a new MacBook Pro as well for college so i'd like to have both integrated.
The rumors are it won't be updated until September/October, which is 7-8 months away. Go ahead and get it now. The iPhone 4S is more than capable.
why not wait for iphone 6? i guess there will be more new features. or may be wait for 6S or 7.. 😛

You should get a 4 and then screw around with Spire proxies 4 hrs a day for 8 months to help pass the time - 😉
Decided on the iPhone 4S now, and will probably see about selling it and getting the 5 later down the line.
If your contract is up for renewal get a 4s now. It's a great phone, and even better when integrated into other Mac products. As Zachnelson says, the re-sale on Iphones is very good. When the 4 came out last year, my wife sold her Iphone 3g (not 3gs) for $150.

Probably a good idea. We can't know for sure if the iPhone 5 will be released in June or October.

The Macrumors buyer's guide is generally a good place to check first when trying to decide whether or not to buy an Apple product (of course that shouldn't be your only deciding factor! Just a starting point).
Since the rumours are saying a fall release, I think this would be best for you. Apple devices hold their value so well, you won't have to pay very much out of pocket to upgrade after selling the 4S.

Anyways, I don't have a contract since I'm on an employee line. Therefore, there isn't a commitment on my end. Just saying. 😎
Back on topic, get the 4S. Who knows when or if the "5" comes out. Live life now. Don't wait for something that might not even happen.
Just got my 4s last weekend. Upgraded from a 3G, which is a huge leap. With >6 months to go before the next upgrade, I didn't really want to wait longer.
Buying in iPhone 4S now might be a bad idea for two reasons:
1) It's only approx. 6 month until the iPhone 5 is released.
2) Prices for the 4S will drop after the release.
So, either care about money and buy a 4S after iPhone5 is released to save money,
or wait for the iPhone5. Paying the full price now is not wise in my opinion.

Don't see why people keep waiting for things especially when they are most likely to be 7/8 months away plus the wait of getting the phone after its announced.
If you want a new iPhone get the 4S, it's a very good phone.
