As a person who walks/runs/bikes and gets the gym a few times a week, I came across this from Nike - http://www.nike.com/fuelband/

I have one on its way to me from Nike, but I thought it was an interesting new health gizmo and being a geek I just had to have one.

Oh yeah, the scalpers are selling them on eBay since it was a limited introductory sale until they are officially released world wide in April or June.

I think the Fuel band looks pretty cool, I only wish it was completely water proof and was on Android. (I think I heard that it is coming to Android, I just can't remember when)

I'm thinking if this takes off the next version will be water proof. (even though they say you can wear this one in the shower) I'm not sure about the Android app though. There is similar gizmo called "UP" that makes one too, but I've heard horror stories about quality control issues as it has a built in vibration mechanism that can wake you up from a nap or sleep.

Yeah, That's what I'm kind of hoping for, that the next generation will have complete water resistance so I can swim with it.

I want one, but not for $150 USD.

That is way too expensive for a product that does so little. It's a very stylish, well marketed pedometer that uses several accelerometers rather than more archaic "physical" methods :)rolleyes:) to record the number of shakes of the wrist you've made (e.g. while running, playing tennis, watching porn, shaking from too much caffeine, etc).

Doesn't the new iPod Nano do the same thing? I'm not too familiar with the product, but I believe it has a very similar feature for those who exercise. It also plays music!

Plus, if you want to track all the exercise you do, this thing won't be effective on treadmills (common activity for many people), or while riding a bike, or while swimming.

FitBit

I've been using Nike plus with my iPod nano for about three years now and love it. I checked out the wrist band because I received an email about. The concept is great, as it measures movement around the clock as opposed just went exercising which is what Nike+ does.

However, there are several other similar products out there though that look a little better IMO than Nike's. You should look at the FitBit. It does the similar thing and has wireless syncing (as opposed to the USB on Nike Fuel), as well as a longer lasting battery and a better looking interface. I don't have one yet, but I'm leaning towards the FitBit over Nike Fuel. Fitbits are also a little cheaper in price coming in at $99.

Xml/api?

Anyone knows the XML feed or service endpoint to fetch fuelband data from nike servers? I've seen end points for their other running products but can't find anything on the fuelband.

The Fuelband syncs over Bluetooth to your iPhone. You have to put it into a sync mode with the button on the device.

The only thing the FitBit has over the Fuelband is the altimeter which can measure your stair climbs. Otherwise, I think the design of the Up and the Fuelband is better because there is less chance you are going to lose the thing.

anybody know if it works when on a treadmill? I do lots of movement but running I can only do well with a treadmill. It's an intriguing device either way.

Wanted to try it but I am also probably going to chec out the "miCoach" from Adidas as it can measure my fastest pace am other variables while I train for the pitch. Also isn't there a 50 dollar Nike+ wristband as well? But that requires the in shoe sensor as well right? Just curious.

I personally haven't heard to many good things about the fuel band though to get bac on topic.

I ordered a pair of them today; I'm right on the edge of a small and medium. The other will be sent back or sold.

I've been running with Nike+ for the last 4 months and have been enjoying keeping track of my runs with them. I hope this will continue to provide motivation for me to live healthier.

It definitely is expensive; I'll see if it is worth it for me.

My wife and I both got one when they launched. I am loving it. I think the total Nike+ ecosystem is a great motivation to stay active. The FuelBand has certainly helped encourage me to get out more often.

I believe you just over-ruled any price concerns, provided the same functionality is not available in a less advertised brand.

That's my thought on it as well. The prices is irrelevant, assuming you can comfortably afford it, if it legitimately helps motivate you to improve your fitness. I think that's the target market, those needing the motivation, as opposed to those that are fitness buffs already. Worst case scenario if it doesn't work out for you is that you sell it on ebay for not much of a loss, and in some cases, for a profit.

Any reviews from people who have had one for a while?

I stopped wearing watches and wristbands 20+ years ago. Having things around my wrists annoys me. So, no Fuel Band, for me. Plus I have yet to accept Nike's apology for THIS

How well does this track information while playing sports? I know that Nike+ is coming out with some basketball and soccer cleats with sensors in them - ala miCoach or whatever Adidas calls it.
