Weird Spots behind ThunderBolt Display Glass?

Are the spots inside or outside? If inside, maybe it is some residue coming from production of the screen?

Either way, if you are not happy with the product - take it back to be looked at

I know but it's such a PITA to lug this thing to the Apple Store. I just wanted to know if anyone experienced this problem before I make an appointment with Apple.

Yeh, I can understand that! It certainly isn't light. But sorry, I've had no experience in that regard.

It could be condensation/residue deposited due to condensation.

Do you have a humidifier near/in the same room as the display? Its manual warns against using these kind of devices with regular tap water (as does another PC monitor I own, so it's not just Apple), as it can cause mineral build-up on the screen.

If you do have a humidifier, use de-ionized water in it or move it to another room.

If the spots haven't gone away over the course of a couple hours or even days they probably won't, as thin layers of moisture don't tend to linger unless the water is trapped in a sealed (and usually cool) space, and Apple's displays can run pretty warm at high brightness levels. There's even a fan in the power supply that wafts around warm air inside.

It is possible to pull the front glass off in order to wipe it using a pair of large-diameter suction cups as shown by for example Apple repair specialist iFixit (it's held in place with magnets), but they caution against this for risk of dust contamination reasons. If you have access to a clean room as found in for example microprocessor foundries or harddrive manufacturing facilities, do it there.
