There have been a few threads on this previously, but they are at least 2 years old and dealt with Pixelmator 1 and Photoshop 8 or earlier.

What are people's opinion now that the current versions are pixelmator 2 and photoshop elements 10, particularly with regard to the following two questions:

Which one is easier to use for a beginner at photo editing?
What key features are present in one but not the other?

The kind of things I will be starting out with are replacing backgrounds on portrait photos and replacing the sky on landscape/building photos, but please don't restrict your answer to just those use cases.

Please note, I am asking about Photoshop Elements, not full-blown Photoshop. Pixelmator vs full-blown Photoshop is being discussed here:

Also, I know there are trial versions of both applications and I will take advantage of that. I just want some other opinions.
