Kerning in Pages

Is it possible in Pages 9 to kern only 2 letters within a word, and not the whole word? For example, the word "Names" . I want to kern the "a" closer to the N, but I don't want the whole word kerned. This is possible in QuarkXPress, but that is so expensive. Thanks

You cannot adjust kerning in Pages. the best you can do is Font ->Tracking on text.

I was afraid of that . . .

Can you recommend a non-expensive (i.e., way less than Quark) page layout program that permits individual character kerning? I'm very picky when it comes to type. I don't need pre-press or color separation capabilities.

Thank you -

Select the two letters & adjust the character spacing in the text inspector.

Unfortunately that doesn't work.

It kerns the whole word, even though only 2 characters are highlighted.

Not when I do it (I do this on a regular basis). You actually shouldn't select both, either. Only select the first one (as it adjusts the spacing between that letter and the next one). If you select both letters, it'll adjust the spacing after both letters, which isn't what you want it to do.

Thank you! That works.

Yes, I was selecting 2 characters. Thank you so much!
