many connections to *bz.push.apple.com

Hello
I see that my mac is making a lot of connections to hosts all ending with bz.push.apple.com:

st11p01st-courier084-bz.push.apple.com
st11p01st-courier085-bz.push.apple.com
...

what are those apple servers and what is the process making those connections ? Is this iCloud ? I do have a iCloud account but I'm not logged in in Preferences.

But why is a mac querying iMessage servers ? Can I even send iMessages from a mac ?

When I go to Preferences/iCloud I get the login/password prompt so I suppose I am logged out.

The traffic is still there and it's around 50 KB/s

Strange is that it seems to be happening only when I'm at work behind a http proxy.
