iPod touch 5g wishlist
Here's what I realistically think will be on "the new iPod touch" :P
- Better camera: - ≈3MP back-facing - 1080p if iPhone 5 gets it - Same or slightly better Front-facing - Flash - A5X/A6, whichever the iPhone 6 gets - Same capacities and prices - Slightly thinner - 512MB RAM Doubtful, but would be nice: - GPS - ≈5MP back-facing Will never be on the iPod touch: - 3G. If they put 3G on the iPod touch: 1. They wouldn't sell a single iPhone to Earth's sane population 2. It would get much thicker, making it an iPhone with VoIP instead of GSM/CDMA :P

Regarding your wishlist, I think that if Apple wants to kill the Classic, they'll have to have a 128GB model. Storage is so cheap now, why not? And I'm all for colored Touches - a dark blue or green would be cool.

The iPT will likely stay a generation behind iPhone processsors. It's possible for it to be the same though.

If the next iPT is an iPhone 4S sans phone parts, I'd do backflips. That's a $199 must-have. A5, better camera, SIRI capability... rawk. I have no problem with Apple keeping the iPT one generation behind as long as they keep lowering the price. I'd love to see it finally hit $179 for the 8GB this year. Hey, if they make the ATV for $99, they can make an iPT for $179.
It's getting to the point where opts aren't exactly going to need huge processors. Their form and function will limited them a lot, unless Apple does the right thing and makes them ATVs as well as iPTs. They could probably stagnate at A5 for a couple years. I'd rather have more internal storage than processor upgrades at this time.

A larger screen and a better processor and I'm happy. I am happy with the current iTouch. It's a GREAT device for using around the house listening to the radio and surfing the web etc. I don't use it for games. Just web surfing, mail, music and as a PDA to name a few. I do reckon if the screen was bigger and had a faster processor it would sell a lot more units than it currently does. |

I'd hate to see a bigger iPod Touch. In fact I'd be ecstatic if someone could make a phone that's just like the current iPod Touch. It slips in and out of my pocket so easily and the screen is big enough considering its portability. It's easily the best form factor among mobile devices for my preference.
My guess is that Apple will make a non-iPhone iOS device with a bigger screen and a faster processor than the current iPod Touch but that'll probably be a smaller iPad. |

I agree 3G would be sweet but don't see that coming!

It be nice if apple made a cheaper version. Stick an A3 in there, 128mb memory, no camera, heavier. For a highend iTouch i'd want an A5, 512/1024 megs memory and a great camera.
Also, itd be cool (it will never happen) if there was a camera version of the itouch. 11mega pixel camera, 256 megs memory, 16/32/64gb ssd, better camera and photos app, sd card slot (for easily transfreing photos)

I keep thinking there's gotta be a viable business opportunity for Apple somewhere in the camera industry. A high quality large sensor compact/mirrorless camera system with a great ecosystem and an easy-to-use UI that interconnects with iPad would be a pretty intriguing proposition for many.

The price of the iPod Touch is mainly controlled by the amount of flash memory in it. Making a processor that has a much smaller production run will not affect the price as much as you think it would. While Apple needs to keep making and updating the iPod Touch, it doesn't need to complicate the product line with an underperforming unit where Apps won't work right.

1. bigger screen (about 4")
2. larger RAM (1G) 3. Better rear camera (at least 3MP) Nothing else I wanna care about. |
