iPad retina wallpapers being downsized by iTunes

I am obviously missing something, but all the retina wallpapers I tried to sync with my iPad via iTunes got resized to 1536x1536. If I save them to my camera roll directly from Safari they stay 2048x2048.

Maybe they will let you keep the 2048 resolution when you sync it to the new iPad, but still limited on the iPad2.

Also, it's worth emailing it to yourself and saving it to the camera roll to see if you can avoid that problem.

I emailed them to myself to save to the camera roll. Got them all ready for tomorrow when I restore from iCloud.

When I sync pictures from iPhoto they downsize them all to 3MP size. Maybe with the new iPad this will increase.

Well, I just put my finger on them when I'm looking at them in Safari, wait one second, and save the image. They are saved at 2048x2048 according to PhotoGene. The retina wallpaper thread is AWESOME!!!!

my iPad 1 won't let me look at the Retina Wallpapers thread lol, lack of RAM causes Safari to crash because of all the huge images.

You guys could just use Dropbox to transfer the image files from your computer or wherever to your iPad. Then you won't have to worry about them being resized.

Safari crashes regularly on that thread on my iPad 2 as well.

Thanks, that's a fantastic idea, I'll just dump all my 2048x2048's into a folder in Dropbox!

Well, I'm hoping someone at Apple lifted that 1536x1536 size limit on synced images through iTunes. 2048x2048 seems like a more reasonable limit on the new iPad.
