Wireless keyboard - volume keys do not work

Hey,

I cant seem to get the volume shortcuts to work on my wireless keyboard. I have tried to reset them in the system prefs but it will not allow this. I have checked around online and seems like a lot of people are having this trouble. Is there a solution ?

Is the following checked or unchecked?

System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard > Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys
