Shouldn't Wi-fi model have much better battery life than 3G/4G models?
I am not an engineer, but I was just wondering...
Shouldn't Wi-fi model have much better battery life than LTE ones? Because LTE is a battery killer, but I only have Wi-fi models. Shouldn't Wi-fi ones have much much battery life than LTE? LTE now gets 9 hours and Wi-fi gets 10 hours. Is this accurate? |

Better LTE radios use less power than previous LTE radios.

I was wondering the same thing. I'm not an engineer but it sounds probable to me.

Sure, if one was to only use 3G/4G/LTE their battery life would not be as good.
However, if cellular data was turned off, as mine is, their battery life would be just as good. |

The screen is the biggest power sucker, so that's why the numbers are so close.

This is what I was going to say. Some place claimed it used twice as many led's for the backlight.

I think it's because the main drain on the battery now is the retina display and a5x chip, but when I first saw the keynote I was surprised that the bigger battery meant there was not a small increase in battery life for the wifi model I expected the 4g to have the same as the 3G iPad 2.

Only time a LTE might use more power is while on LTE. I have LTE but have yet to have the need to use LTE. The day will come, it has before and I will be glad I got it.
