Distinguish Apple TV 2G and Apple TV 3G

I'm going to buy the new Apple TV 3G in a Premium Reseller Store, so I don't know when they are going to ship new Apple TVs, but we indeed do have the second generations already available. Is there any way I can distinguish both generations? I'm allowed to view the product itself, so I was wondering about model numbers or something.

What about the device itself? Is there any model number? But thanks anyway.

if you go to settings > general > about
you will see model number there.

also, if you go to settings > audio & video > tv resolution
the new model will have a 1080p option, the old one only goes as high as 720p.

I wanted to be able to distinguish only by having the access to the device, no remote as well. Here, I found an article for that matter, if anyone else is interested:

if you are able to take the device out the box then you already know what version it is without having to look at the actual device, as the box has 1080p written on it.

Yeah, but they have it unpacked and connected to a TV. Boxes are under glass, while I can just go and touch a connected one.

you can touch one, but not allowed to navigate thru the menus to test it?
besides, it's unlikely any apple premium reseller store will still have a 2G device sitting on the shelf.

Yeah, it's just running a slideshow. And we still don't have the new iPad, that's why.
