Buy a Mac. Get a free iPod mini.

I was just on the Apple EDU site and saw this:

Quote:
Buy a Mac. Get a free iPod mini. And with your everyday student discount save up to $479.* But act now. This offer is good only through September 24, 2005.
Here's how:

Shop for your Mac.
The following computers qualify for this offer: all PowerBook models, all iMac models, all Power Mac models, and all iBook models excluding the 12-inch iBook CD.
Shop for your iPod.
You can choose a 4GB iPod mini in any color. Or purchase a 6GB iPod mini, 20GB or 60GB iPod, or a 20GB iPod U2 Special Edition and save $179 after mail-in rebate.
Send in the rebate coupon.
Download the rebate coupon. After you receive your order, just follow the instructions on the form and mail it in and you'll receive a check from Apple for $179.
Now start enjoying your new Mac, new iPod and all
that extra cash you saved.
*Your everyday student discount entitles you to big savings throughout the Apple Store — as much as $300 on a new Mac. This special offer saves you an additional $179 on a new iPod.

Read the terms and conditions of this special offer.

I might buy my new Power Mac now and take advantage of the new ipods that just came out as well.

Are these amalgamated iPod/iPod photos considered 5G iPods... ? Or has the iPod line been discontinued and the iPod photo line renamed the iPod line?

Either way, I want a regular iPod now, not a mini. And I can't believe I bought my iMac at regular price...

Students: - Buy a Mac get a free iPod

FYI

The Apple Store is offering free iPods for students with the purchase of a new Mac. This offer is great as you can still use the Education discount on the purchase of your Mac. The offer ends on September 24, 2005.

I can't find this over here in the UK store.

Also, which Macs and which iPods is it valid for?

Its US only then.

Thats an awesome bit of PR work on Apple's behalf. Its always nice getting something for nothing, and that something being an iPod is even better!

Well done Apple, although you lose 5 points for it being exclusive to US

I purchased my powerbook YESTERDAY! how didn't I know something like this was going to happen?! Anyway, I called Apple to ask them if I could still get the iPod rebate and they said they'd have no cancel and resend my order. So if anyone else had an order pending from yesterday or before....that seems to be the answer.

Can't you try choosing your K-12 school from the education website?

If it's only for college students, then yeah, that blows.

This happened to me one year ago when I purchased a 12in PB and an HP printer (rebate)...

The next day, Cram & Jam started. So I "returned" my PB, and bought an iPod instead of the HP printer.

The next week, 4G iPods were released. So I did it again.

It took me over 2 weeks to get it all straightened out, and at a slight cost to me. But I ended up with a great 12in PB and a 20gb iPod. So it all worked out in the end. Oh yeah, then they rejected my rebate. F-u-n.

i love that they give you a $179 rebate and you can use it on whatever iPod you want, i love having a choice instead of having the lowest-end iPod shoved down your throat... not that i wouldn't welcome a free iPod down my throat, but you get my point

Do you mean can up apply the Student ADC and get the free iPod rebate on top?

Then the answer is no. The rebate I'm sure specifically mentiones it must be purchased from the Apple store (which means no ADC).

sweet!

This is a much sweeter deal than the 'Go Save' $100 rebate that ended on June 25th.

It helps reduce inventory numbers for the second quarter too.
