Science says so, but we knew all about repression already. Anytime someone is anti-gay this or that, or acting a bit too straight, I'm always suspicious these days.

There was an actual physical study. The dangler never lies:

Researchers at the University of Georgia conducted an experiment involving 35 homophobic men and 29 nonhomophobic men as measured by the Index of Homophobia scale. All the participants selected for the study described themselves as exclusively heterosexual both in terms of sexual arousal and experience.

Each participant was exposed to sexually explicit erotic stimuli consisting of heterosexual, male homosexual and lesbian videotapes (but not necessarily in that order). Their degree of sexual arousal was measured by penile plethysmography, which precisely measures and records male tumescence.

Men in both groups were aroused by about the same degree by the video depicting heterosexual sexual behavior and by the video showing two women engaged in sexual behavior. The only significant difference in degree of arousal between the two groups occurred when they viewed the video depicting male homosexual sex: 'The homophobic men showed a significant increase in penile circumference to the male homosexual video, but the control [nonhomophobic] men did not.'

Broken down further, the measurements showed that while 66% of the nonhomophobic group showed no significant tumescence while watching the male homosexual video, only 20% of the homophobic men showed little or no evidence of arousal. Similarly, while 24% of the nonhomophobic men showed definite tumescence while watching the homosexual video, 54% of the homophobic men did.

When asked to give their own subjective assessment of the degree to which they were aroused by watching each of the three videos, men in both groups gave answers that tracked fairly closely with the results of the objective physiological measurement, with one exception: the homophobic men significantly underestimated their degree of arousal by the male homosexual video.

Yeah, I went to college with someone like that. He was a militant Christian and hated by many on campus. I knew men that he frequently had "liaisons" with, but to this day swears on his heterosexuality, is ridiculously homophobic. The problem was that he got a girl knocked up, so then he married her. I feel sorry for his child and wife. I mean, how awful would it be to stay in a loveless marriage with someone that hates himself that thoroughly.

Oh I'm sure if they did a study on guys who were overtly trying to fulfil straight stereotypes we'd see similar results

Problem is that people who are homophobic still aren't going to pay attention to this, or any other study. Ever try to explain to a homophobic person how study after study has concluded that a homosexual couple makes equally good parents as a heterosexual couple? It's like banging your head against a wall...

Most of us were brought up with some sort of Christian subtext running throughout our lives..like iJ said at the start...

Yet they've led to to the oppression and repression of so many. One of the cases that led to the outcry by that 'Lord' was of course the sex therapist who refused therapy to a m/m couple because he was Christian. He was rightly given the boot from his employer and his dismissal was upheld.

Somehow, these sort of rulings are the vilification of Christians. Still trying to get my head round how that works.

As I have said previously, Religion has stolen Christ's revolution in the same manner as the Bolsheviks stole the Marx one.

I consider myself a Christian, but I have absolutely no use for any major Religion, as presently constituted.

Me too. I'm non-deonominational and I don't go to church because they often spread poison.

As for the article I completely agree! When I was in the military there was a guy in the unit, he was in his 40's or 50's and still an e-4 (that should tell you something) who was super homophobe. He used to harass me constantly (I'm not gay but I know I sound like it when I talk) and make threatening, nasty remarks to me all the time and would tell people I liked to suck ****...

...well guess what, he was caught on an an annual training to Germany buying all kinds of sex toys and gay porn. He didn't realize his bags would be checked on the way back.
