Non-Silicon Rugged Case

I am about to get an iphone 3 and I want to find a rugged case that does not have a silicon rubber jacket on the outside, but still provides a lot of protection.

It seems like the standard rugged cases (Otterbox and Griffin Survivor) would be impossible to pull out of my pocket. I can't use a belt clip because I work in places like steel mills where sparks and flames are more likely to damage something hanging off my belt.

I appreciate any advice! Thanks

If you meant iPhone 4, I'd say you'd put a lifeproof case to good use.
