More battery problems with my 3G 20GB iPod

I have taken it in to the Apple store, and they said the battery was fine, lasting 7.5 hours out of the advertised eight, and you need it to last under 6 hours to replace the iPod (or battery only).

Anyway, lately its been skipping, like if I raise/lower the volume it goes to the next/previous song, respectively.

Also, if I fully charge it, and don't use it for like two days, when I turn it on, the Apple logo appears and I wait like a minute for it to fully load, the battery low, and after thirty seconds it says there isn't enough battery.

Its annoying, because my camp we take trips for two, three days at a time and can be on busses anywhere from two to six hours - I need music for at least an hour! And it doesnt even last that!

SO anyone have suggestions?

I don't want to bring it in again because I brought it in like two months ago...

i got a belkin battery pack for my 3g ipod. you basically put 4 AA batteries in it, then stick it on to the back of teh ipod (suction cups) and plug it into the dock connector. i usually got ~10hrs out of it on long trips and such when my ipod's battery would run out. then i fried it by leaving it on in a hot car with the ipod off for like 8hrs. came back, smelled like burning plastic, intolerably hot, yadda yadda yadda, but my ipod was fine great unless you fry it...oh and the same thing happens to my ipod. it automatically shuts down after a period of time normally, so would it be feasible for you to like turn it on for a few seconds every day? that might help allievate (sp?) the problem.

I already got the Belkin Battery pack... worst iPod accessory ever. It gets the job done, I guess, but it weighs more than my ipod!
