iMac G4 (Broken screen) on eBay. Is this a good idea?

I found the iMac to use as a server computer, and it's at about $30 so far and I can't see the logo and specs aren't listed, but the seller said that I could return it if it was unusable. Would it be good to get it, and could I hook it up to an external monitor through the built-in USB ports? And could I take the connector for the screen at the top and convert it into a cable that I could connect to the screen? I know this would essentially make it a computer tower, but should it work well? For complicated reasons, I can't use hosting services and I'd use a dynamic DNS.
