Here is the history of all iPhones:

iPhone 1: Officially named just "iPhone"
iPhone 2: Officially named "iPhone 3G"
iPhone 3: Officially named "iPhone 3GS"
iPhone 4: Officially named "iPhone 4" (They didn't want to be creative this time for some reason.)
iPhone 5: Officially named "iPhone 4S"
iPhone 6: Unknown, but it would make no sense to call it the iPhone 5. My educated guess is that the iPhone 6 will be released as "The new iPhone" like what they did with the iPad 3.

The iPhone 5 (i.e., the fifth iPhone) is the iPhone 4S. There will never be an iPhone called the iPhone 5. I hope this makes sense to everyone.
