How to find OSX version of drive mounted in Target Disk Mode

Please help!

I'm trying to find which version of OSX is installed on an old MacBook Pro which won't boot up.

I can see the hard disk and all its files from another Macbook Pro when the broken one is in Target Disk Mode.

Is there any system file I can search for that will give me a clue??

Write this in a Terminal-window:

defaults read /Volumes/YourDiskName/System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion ProductVersion

Drag the disk icon from the desktop or from another location to the Terminal window, to obtain the correct path for the disk.

You can also "get info" on the disk and it will show you the version there.
