iMac late 2009 here. Occasionally my USB connection drops out and needs a restart, and I was at the login screen. I tried to type my password for my account, and the USB keyboard wouldn't function, so I used the wireless trackpad to try to restart. I hit "Guest" or something like that, and it restarted into Safari Guest Mode, I believe it's called.

That's great, but now I can't restart normally into OS X again. Selecting shut down or restart does nothing for many minutes, and selecting startup disk also does nothing.

When I do a hard reset, I hold Option to choose a disk to boot to, and I select my boot disk, and the account screen is never shown, I am only able to get Safari Guest Mode to come up.

Is there any way I can get out of this mode? Thanks for any help.

Nevermind, clicking "restart" finally worked, despite it hanging for up to 10 minutes when I clicked it before.
